After AdolescenceJack Thorne will offer us His Majesty the Flies
Recounting the investigation into a teenager accused of killing a young girl, Adolescence sparked a huge reaction when it was released on Netflix last March. Its creators, Stephen Graham AND Jack Thornethey therefore achieved the objective of starting a debate on the issues raised. A few months later, one of Jack Thorne’s new projects is revealed. This time it’s abouta series adaptation of His Majesty the Flies.
Written by William Golding and published in 1954, His Majesty the Flies tell the story about English boys who find themselves trapped on a tropical island following the crash of their plane, which killed the other passengers. Schoolchildren try to organize themselves applying the rules that were instilled in them in their upbringing. But little by little, the little society they have built will threaten to collapse.
First photos of the characters in nature
The new adaptation of His Majesty the Flies was produced by the BBC and Stan. The British channel and the Australian streaming service have just shared the first images via a press release. We find out there young actors in the natural environment where filming took place, in Malaysia. Many of these actors appear here for the first time on screen.
Among the main characters of the series, Ralph, Jack, Piggy, Simon, Roger, Maurice and Bill are respectively played by Winston Sawyers, Lox Pratt, David McKenna, Ike Talbut, Thomas Connor, Cornelius Brandreth AND Tom Page Turner. As for the twins Sam and Eric, they are played by Noah AND Cassius Flemming.
A faithful adaptation of the novel
Written by Jack Thorne, His Majesty the Flies was carried out by Marc Munden (The sympathizer). The series was made with the support of William Golding’s family. It is described as if it were a faithful adaptation of the novel. It is set on a Pacific island in the early 1950s. And according to the BBC press release, «explores the delicate themes of the book in more depth; human nature, the loss of innocence and masculinity during childhood ».
His Majesty the Flies is divided into four episodes. Each of them is named after a different but central character in the story. The episodes are titled respectively Ralph, piggy, Simon AND Jack. The BBC doesn’t they haven’t indicated the release date yet. Furthermore, at the moment we don’t know who will broadcast the series in France.
