Snoop Dogg praises same-sex parents in new campaign after criticism: ‘Love is the key’

Rapper teams up with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to release children’s song about diversity, months after complaining about the scene in ‘Lightyear’

The rapper Snoop Dogg appears to be reevaluating its positions on LGBTQ+ representation. After facing criticism for comments made in August about the film Lightyear (2022), the artist announced a partnership with GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) to release an inclusive children’s song titled “Love Is Love.”

The launch, which celebrates the “Spirit Day” organization, was discussed in a video on YouTube this Thursday (16), where Snoop talk with Jeremy Beloatean openly queer artist on his label. In the video, the 53-year-old rapper openly praised same-sex fatherhood: “It’s beautiful that children can have parents from all walks of life, and can receive love and learn what love is.”he said.

Snoop Dogg continued his defense of family diversity, stating that “hate is taught as well as love”. And he added: “Whether it’s two dads, two moms, whatever it is, love is the key. These kids are being loved by these great parents who are giving them an example of what family is all about.”. The rapper explained that he accepted the partnership because he had “the opportunity to teach these children through my music”.

The new stance is in stark contrast to his August comments on the podcast It’s Giving. At the time, Snoop criticized the scene Lightyear which shows two women kissing and having a child. He reported that his grandson asked in the middle of the cinema: “‘Grandfather Snoop? How does she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”. The rapper admitted that the situation “caught by surprise” and that he didn’t have an answer. “I’m scared to go to the movies right now. You guys are throwing me in the middle of s— that I have no answer for.”he said at the time.
