Crime 101a heist film adapted from a short novel
For his second feature film after American animalsthe screenwriter and director Bart Layton opted for a new burglary story. With Crime 101he chose to do itadapting the short novel of the same name by Don Winslow part of the collection The price of revenge and published in 2020.
In Crime 101the police are trying to put an end to it a series of jewelry store robberies carried out with great skill. The police suspect that Colombian cartels are behind these thefts. Or rather certain police officers. Why Veteran investigator Lou Lubesnick has another theory regarding the identity of the thief. It will then launch a game of cat and mouse between them.
The XXL cast shows itself in the first images
Squire has just revealed the first images of Crime 101. They showcase the film’s impressive cast. Chris Hemsworth AND Marco Ruffalothe respective interpreters of Thor and Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, play the two main roles. There are around them Halle Berry (Die another day), Barry Keoghan (Salt burner) AND Monica Barbaro (A complete stranger).
Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo teamed up once again for this feature film after having already appeared together numerous times in Marvel Cinematic Universe films. And Bart Layton reunited with Barry Keoghan. He had already directed him for his first feature film, American animals.
Several classics of the genre as influences
Squire indicates Chris Hemsworth plays Davis, the thief at the center of the intrigue of the film. Play Mark Ruffalo Lou Lubesnick, the detective in pursuit and who seems ever closer to stopping him. Halle Berry lends her features Sharon Colvin, an insurance broker. Both Davis and Lou Lubesncik could benefit from her help, but Sharon’s motivations are unclear. As for Barry Keoghan, he plays Ormon, a rival and more volatile thief who comes from a difficult background.
For Crime 101Bart Layton was inspired by several classic heist films. Asked by Squire on the subject, quotes the director The Thomas Crown case. As well as two feature films by Michael Mann: The solitaire AND Heat.
Crime 101 will come out February 13, 2026 in North American cinemas. It should be released two days earlier in France. And if you like heist stories, more films like this are in the works.
