Production has begun on a second season of Young Sherlock, with Irish actor Hiro Fiennes-Tiffin reprising the title role despite a critical reception that was less than enthusiastic for the first season.
The debut season launched on Prime Video earlier this year, with all eight episodes released at once. According to the show’s figures, around 45 million people watched the series, either in full or in part, within its first month.
Critics found the show bore the hallmarks of director and producer Guy Ritchie, who developed the series and directed its first two episodes, but felt the result was routine and predictable rather than original. The show is based on Andy Lane’s novels about the early cases of the young Sherlock Holmes.
Donal Finn, who played a young James Moriarty in season one, has not yet been confirmed for the new episodes. Joining Fiennes-Tiffin for season two will be Aidan Gillen, known for Game of Thrones, Indira Varma, Sophie Skelton of Outlander, and Olivia Williams. The characters they will play and details of the new storylines have not been announced.
