Actor Alan Ritchson is in negotiations with Sony Pictures to star in a feature film adaptation of the Helldivers video game franchise.
If the agreement is finalized, Ritchson would play one of the Helldivers, the soldiers who fight to defend Super Earth, according to a report by Deadline.
The potential casting follows the departure of Jason Momoa, who was initially announced as part of the project's cast. Director Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast & Furious film franchise, remains attached to direct the adaptation.
Ritchson has built a prominent career as an action lead in television and film, most notably starring as the titular character in the Prime Video series Reacher. His feature film work includes roles in the action movies Fast X, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and War Machine.
Helldivers film details and release date
Sony Pictures originally announced the live-action Helldivers movie during the Consumer Electronics Show in 2025. The studio unveiled the project alongside other adaptations of popular video games, including a film version of Horizon Zero Dawn and an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
The Helldivers adaptation is scheduled to open in cinemas on November 10, 2027. Sony Pictures has not officially confirmed Ritchson's involvement, and no details regarding the movie's storyline have been disclosed.
