15-year-old actress Aleksandra Babaskina has detailed her preparation and experience filming the new Russian television series Kholod, revealing that she stepped away from public life to get into character for the role of Vera.
Speaking to the Telegram channel Cult Russian Series, Babaskina said her preparation for the role began roughly a month before shooting started. To build an emotional connection with her character, who differs significantly from her own personality, the young performer deliberately skipped red carpet premieres and social events.
Filming with Larisa Guzeeva
Babaskina described filming a dramatic scene where the character played by veteran actress Larisa Guzeeva raises a hand to hit her as an unusual experience. Babaskina said that no one in her personal life had ever raised a hand against her, making the moment stand out during production.
Guzeeva is a prominent Russian screen actress and television presenter who rose to prominence in Soviet cinema. Despite the physical intensity of that scene, Babaskina noted that it was not her most challenging sequence on set, explaining that the hardest scene for her to shoot was one involving a gun.
Co-stars and plot of Kholod
The teenager also praised her working relationship with co-star Lyubov Aksyonova, a well-established Russian film and television actress. Babaskina said the two developed genuine chemistry on set and added that she looks forward to reuniting with her senior colleague on future projects.
The plot of Kholod follows Aksyonova's character, Zhenya, who is wrongfully imprisoned for a fatal car accident on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, a major radial avenue in Moscow. The collision claims the lives of Zhenya's family, leading to her false conviction for the crime.
Inside the penal colony, Zhenya meets fellow prisoner Yana, played by Linda Lapinsh, who directs her onto a path of vengeance. The series starring Aksyonova was previously reported as one of the top television productions of the year under the title The Countess of Monte-Crypto.
