How to Store Broken Powder, Eyeshadow, Blush or Highlighter: 2 Easiest Ways

Have you ever dropped a box of powder or an eyeshadow palette? Then you probably know that bitter feeling of loss – especially if the cosmetics were purchased recently.

However, there are ways to fix it. Today we will talk about the two simplest ones: one is suitable for owners of normal skin, the other for those with very sensitive skin.

How to fix broken powder with alcohol

You will need medical alcohol with a concentration of 70% or more. Here’s what to do:

  1. Pour all the powder into a clean container, knead it thoroughly, including the part that survived the fall. There should be no lumps left, otherwise the “fixed” powder will be too grainy.
  2. Add medical alcohol: its amount depends on the amount of powder in the cup. The powder should not float in the alcohol – look for the concentration of thick sour cream. If you realize that you accidentally poured a lot of alcohol, dip a paper towel into the container – it will absorb the excess.
  3. Put the resulting mixture back into the powder box, smooth it with a spoon or the tip of a makeup brush. Leave the powder for an hour – during this time most of the alcohol will have time to evaporate.
  4. Give texture to the reconstituted powder: fold a patterned paper towel several times and press the contents of the box of powder with it so that the pattern is imprinted on the surface of the powder. Clean the edge of the powder box with a cotton swab.
  5. Leave the powder uncovered overnight to allow any remaining alcohol to evaporate. Enjoy – now you can use it again!

How to fix broken powder with an iron

If you have sensitive skin and don’t want to use alcohol, there is a way to add nothing to the powder. Follow this roadmap:

  1. Pour the powder into a ziplock bag, grind it thoroughly to a state of fine dust without lumps.
  2. Remove the metal container that held the powder from the plastic powder box. You can tear it off with the tip of a knife.
  3. Pour the powder into a container. At the same time, you will lose some powder – don’t worry, it’s inevitable.
  4. Pack the powder with the back of a spoon, working from the edges of the container towards the center. Already at this stage, it will look like new, but will remain extremely fragile and will crumble at the slightest push.
  5. Set the iron to maximum power, turn it on. When the iron is hot, unplug the cord and be sure to turn off the steam setting – you only need dry heat. Press the iron against the powder container for 15 seconds. Press firmly, but do not move the iron as you would when ironing clothes. Raise the iron, wait a few seconds, then heat the powder again with the iron for 15 seconds.
  6. When the powder container is dry, stick it back into the plastic case and use it as before.
