Non-Obvious Consequences: The Hidden Danger of Sleeping With Earrings in Your Ears

You probably know that nasty feeling when you come home late at night and realize you can’t just go to bed and go to bed. Sure, you can skip the 12 skin care steps, but there are a few things you need to do.

Who? Well, of course, remove your makeup – now everyone has recognized that leaving makeup on your face at night is a bad habit. But there is another that many have acquired over time – sleeping without removing earrings from their ears.

Why is it bad to sleep with your earrings?

One in three people are sensitive to nickel, and it is very often used to make costume jewellery. The longer the skin is in contact with this metal, the more likely it is to develop irritation.

If your earrings are silver or gold, there is another danger: by clinging to the fabric of the pillow, they will stretch the piercings and earlobes. Massive jewelry is particularly dangerous in this regard, which, even without eight hours of friction against the fabric at night, can damage the skin.

And finally, a common cause of morning headaches is sleeping with earrings on, especially if you’re used to lying on your side or stomach in bed. This effect gives a long pressure of the pins on the skin, and the migraine is very easy to eliminate: just do not forget to remove the jewelry at night.

There is a danger for the earrings themselves: according to jewelers, it is at night that the pins most often break and the precious stones fall out. It is therefore better to put on earrings while sleeping next to the bed, if you do not want them to break prematurely.

Water procedures

Another significant nuance: girls who have taken the bad habit of sleeping with earrings in their ears sometimes forget that they are wearing them without changing them for weeks, especially when it comes to small studs. During this time, the jewelry should be washed – it will not clean itself when you take a shower.

According to dermatologists, you should clean your earrings and piercings at least once a week to avoid turning jewelry into a breeding ground for bacteria. The process itself is quite simple: use liquid soap and warm water or alcohol on a cotton swab. It is very important to treat the brooch carefully – it is advisable to do this before putting the earrings in the box. If they stay there for a long time, repeat the procedure before putting them on.

If you have time, you can “soak” the earrings: put them in water for 15 minutes with a drop of dishwashing liquid, then rinse with a soft toothbrush. Just do it over a sink with a grated drain or you risk losing your favorite jewelry.
