Long nails are beautiful. Long nails allow the nail designer’s imagination to play. Long nails are almost always a trend. But what if you have extensions, come home and find you can’t open a can of soda or a bag of chips anymore?

Wearing long nails is no easy task, and we don’t blame those who, at the end of the first week, decide they’ve enjoyed their beauty and are ready to command, “Take it off. !” If you’re one of those girls, don’t be discouraged – not everyone is cut out for 24/7 acrylic, and that’s okay. If your stylist is busy or you just can’t find time to go to the salon, here’s what you can do.

How to shorten acrylic nails at home

As LA-based manicurist Adriana Gutierrez explains, there are two ways to go from impressive stilettos to the usual medium-length soft bob: trim your nails without touching the polish, or remove them completely. According to Adriana, you’ll need seven items: cotton pads, nail polish remover, nail polish, straight cutters, a buff, and a 100/180 grit file.

Proceed as follows:

  1. If you want to get rid of the coating, remove it with cotton pads soaked in nail polish remover.
  2. It’s bite time! As Adriana Gutierrez explains, you shouldn’t cut the whole nail at once – it can break the acrylic. Instead, she advises taking small sections off each side of the nail in turn until the cut edges meet.
  3. Then process the tip of the nail with a nail file, tilting its lower edge – after trimming, you need to get rid of the excessive thickness of the plate at its tip.
  4. File your nails, polish them and finally apply varnish. Profit – you have restored the length that suits you without ruining the manicure!
