How not to turn into a leopard: 8 mistakes when using self-tanner

What to do if there are still two months before the holidays, you do not have time to go to the solarium, but you really want to get a beautiful tanned complexion?

The answer is obvious – self-tanner is necessary. But you’ve probably heard more than once about how girls turn into leopards because of him, and maybe you’ve encountered this problem yourself. We have good news for you: not becoming a werewolf is very easy – here are some mistakes to avoid.

Mistake #1: Forgetting to prep your skin

It doesn’t matter where you are going to use the self-tanner – at home or in the salon. In any case, before him it is very important not to forget about peeling: self-tanning expert Sophie Evans advises doing it eight hours before the procedure – this will help the pH balance of the skin to recover. Self-tanner applicator Christine Pradas advises avoiding oil-based scrubs – oil can create a barrier between the body and the self-tanner and lead to blemishes.

Mistake #2: Choosing the wrong formula

If a self-tanner is right for your girlfriend or your sister, that doesn’t mean it will be right for you too. Look for a tool created with your characteristics and problems in mind. Kirsty Kirkham, the creator of her own line of self-tanning products, advises people with oily skin to avoid oil-based cosmetics, and those with dry skin to be careful with moisturizers.

Mistake #3: Not using tinted self-tanner

The washable brown tint, which is added to self-tanners, helps distribute the product evenly – you’ll immediately notice the areas you’ve missed.

Mistake #4: Not moisturizing your skin

After putting on self-tanner, your beauty routine should change: for a week, apply moisturizer to your body every day. It is best to do this right after showering when the skin is still damp.

Mistake #5: Choosing the wrong shade

As Kirsty explains, fair-skinned people should choose a self-tanner two to three shades darker than their natural color, dark girls three to four shades darker.

Mistake #6: Not getting rid of your old tanner

So you are sure to be covered in stains. Removing the old color is easy – use special products for this, which remove the remnants of the previous tan.

Mistake #7: Not using a self-tanning mitt

First, a special glove will protect your palms from treacherous orange stains. Second, such a mitt will allow for a more even application of the product.

Mistake #8: Don’t let self-tanner soak in

The self-tanner needs at least 10 minutes to do this. For another 6-10 hours, it is better not to go far from home and wear loose clothes – choose dark clothes, on which the stains will remain invisible, and perceive the forced break as an opportunity to take time for yourself .
