The menstrual cycle greatly affects how we look, although we’re much more accustomed to blaming lack of sleep, overeating and skipping workouts for it. Even if a woman exercises regularly and carefully monitors her diet, at certain times of the month her body looks different.

Undoubtedly, our appearance is greatly influenced by a passive lifestyle, bad habits, late snacks and exceeding the recommended calorie intake. However, do not forget the influence of the phases of the cycle. Alas, it is so inherent in nature: the female body simply cannot always look the same!

The menstrual cycle is usually divided into two most common phases – follicular and luteal. The follicular phase begins on the first day of menstruation and lasts until the middle of the cycle, that is, until the onset of ovulation. The luteal phase begins with the onset of ovulation and lasts until the onset of menstruation.

Every day of the course of the follicular phase in our body, the “most feminine hormone” estrogen is produced more and more. Due to this, after the first days of menstruation, we feel a long-awaited surge of strength. Also at this time, excess fluid is removed from the body, and physical activity has a better effect on the body.

In the luteal phase, the body becomes heavier. When the body realizes that the pregnancy did not occur, the level of the hormone progesterone (it is just responsible for the course of pregnancy) drops noticeably. As a result, our well-being deteriorates: bloating, swelling and other unpleasant symptoms that we usually attribute to PMS may appear.

But even in his case, at different times of the cycle, the body looks different: and the impeccability of the follicular cycle is replaced by severe swelling of the luteal period.
