How to wear red lipstick and not look vulgar: 5 rules from a star makeup artist

You have more than one red lipstick in your arsenal, but do you hardly ever use this beauty weapon? Today our columnist – star makeup artist Alena Lapina – will give you some tips that will make you feel confident and natural with the most daring lip makeup!

There is perhaps nothing more feminine in makeup than red lipstick on the lips. She will immediately distinguish you from the crowd, attract a lot of eyes and simply leave no chance to go unnoticed by the male half of the population. All men love red lipstick on women! All! Even those who say they don’t like it. She works as a kind of aphrodisiac, instantly arousing the interest of a girl who dared to place such persistent accents and draw attention to herself. And not just to himself, but to his feminine “I”.

So why don’t a good half of the fairer sex use this most powerful weapon that the god of beauty has put in his hands and cosmetic bags?! I will tell you why. Because we see too many examples where the inept use of red lipstick plays a cruel joke – and instead of a chic feminine goddess, it turns you into a girl of easy virtue from a distant province. To avoid future mistakes, I will tell you exactly what is completely incompatible with red lipstick.

  • Uneven skin tone + red lipstick. No no and again no! If there are pimples on the face, be nice, carefully disguise them!
  • The lip contour, obviously exceeding yours, + red lipstick. The image looks vulgar and cheap.
  • Wrinkled lips + red lipstick. Any lip makeup flaws will immediately look archaic, since you’re deliberately drawing attention to that particular part of your face.
  • Chapped lips (with hanging pieces of skin) + red lipstick. It’s just a makeup artists nightmare! Do not apply glossy lipstick, including rouge, to uneven lip skin. If everything is really bad, you can always use a lip scrub and then apply a balm or primer that will fill in all the bumps.
  • Obvious mismatch of complexion and skin tone + red lipstick. Now I will explain what I mean. There is a rule, which, of course, is not an axiom, but still works: girls with a cold pink shade of skin will suit cold shades of lipstick, and with a warm (yellow) shade – its versions hot. Makeup artists skillfully combine warm and cold shades on one face and even know how to achieve an incredible feeling of lightness and freshness. However, if you are not a pro in this matter, you can easily destroy the harmony of your image. I recommend paying close attention to this rule and experimenting with lipstick shades in front of a mirror to find the best one.

Well, the last. If you painted your lips with bright red lipstick, match the picture! Remember that you are now the very embodiment of femininity. We spit out the gum, straighten our shoulders, and remove any restlessness in our movements. And, of course, it is very stupid to make up your lips with red lipstick (as well as put on a deeper neckline), and then be embarrassed by the attention that will be riveted on you. Enjoy and get high – that’s what we were made for!
