Comedian Marcius Melhem, who was charged with sexual harassment in August, has revealed that he has been contemplating suicide. The revelation came during an interview with journalist Mônica Bergamo, from Folha de S. Paulo.
“It’s a pain that doesn’t go away. You want to shout to the world that you’re not that person, that you didn’t do that, that you have proof. But no one wants to listen to you,” Melhem said. The comedian undergoes psychotherapy sessions daily and claims that psychiatrists have prescribed him more intensive treatments every other day in order to cope with the current phase.
He went to court against Dani Calabresa in January 2021, months after the allegations appeared in the press in late 2020. As a result, the accusers went to court, which made the comedian a defendant just last month. The prosecution, which initially named 11 victims, including those who claimed to be witnesses, filed charges against only three people, stating that the others – including Dani Calabresa – had expired. The accusers are the actresses Carol Portes and Georgiana Coutinho Goes, and an editor from TV Globo.
Melhem’s version
Melhem claims to be the victim of a “conjunction between resentment and revenge”. “The eight who accuse me are friends, they know each other, they belong to the same group. It is clear that there was a combination”, he claims.
According to his version, he would have denied all the women whose charges would have been barred. “That’s why you despair. I see that things don’t stop. How many lies do I have to prove to close this case?”, she asks.
“Even in war there are rules of humanity. What they did to me was inhumane. A public execration without any evidence, without any name. It is a very cruel cowardice,” he said. “I prove that Dani Calabresa lies, and no one will ever ask her why she lied. You [a colunista] You’re here asking me a million questions. But no one ever asks him anything.”
Disconsolate, he does not spare criticism of the judicial system. He underlines that before the current prosecutor “four delegates and five prosecutors have analyzed this case. And I have not been indicted or denounced by any of them”.
Support
The comedian emphasizes that the most important thing now is the support of his family, especially his daughters Nina and Manuella. “Let’s go, because life is bigger,” he shared, citing a conversation with Joana, his ex-wife and mother of his daughters. “With everything that has happened, she is on my side. Because she lived it. She saw these people in my house. She knows the lies,” concluded the director.
