Music moves with texts on the emotional pain of the deceased immigrant of his homeland

The person who will live in another country, although inserted in the local society, will feel foreign in some situations. This is the song “Dislocated”, the Portuguese band Napa.

Poetic, the letter underlines the discomfort of not being completely welcomed where you live, the desire for the origins and the joy of returning home, where she is waiting for her mother.

The boys of Napa are from the island of Madeira (“I came from afar, I come from the center of the sea, in the heart / ocean”) and I had to go to Lisbon on the continent to make their repertoire’s dream come true.

Although full of biographical references, “displaced” can excite the immigrant of any nationality. “As much as it may seem / I will never belong to that city / the sea of people, the different sun …” says another step. “My way of thinking / return to my house …”

Winner of the 2025 Song Festival, promoted by the RTP channel owned by the State, and 21st at the largest European music festival, Eurovision, music has crossed the Atlantic thanks to the universal message.

It distinguished itself in Brazilian spoth and became viral to Tiktok, where there are countless assemblies. A Portuguese song is rarely successful here. Several Brazilians have published their version – some with adaptations, as a replacement of the concrete concrete word. Many Portuguese reacted angry with the alleged “cultural appropriation”.

There is, as is known, a rancidity between the two peoples due to the shared language, with the fundamental Europeans for the informality of the Portuguese spoken in Brazil. On the other hand, the “Brasucas” nicknamed Portugal from Brazilian Guyana, making the Lusos even more contradicted.

Ego aside, “displaced” deserves to have become a phenomenon: it raises authentic feelings, presents a pleasant melody and appreciates our language.

Napa is on tour. At the moment, it is not expected to perform in Brazil.
