Cruz Beckham has delivered a sassy response to a social media troll who claimed that former footballer David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham ended up with ugly children.
The 21-year-old reacted to a viral throwback photo of his parents by posting a comment featuring a meme of comedian Druski looking confused while pointing to himself. His response racked up nearly 70,000 likes, almost double the count of the original post.
The troll post had claimed: "It’s bizarre that a couple with such an insanely stunning face card only ended up with ugly kids." Fans were quick to hit back at the troll, noting the entire family is "gorgeous" and that all the children resemble their parents.
Cruz proved he did not need defending, taking the comment in good humor as he continues a streak of funny online posts during a period of reported turmoil for his family.
Social media memes and family rift
In recent months, the Beckham family is said to have been in turmoil after eldest son Brooklyn Beckham distanced himself from his parents and siblings. The fallout became public in January when Brooklyn released a scathing six-page statement announcing he had cut ties, declaring he was no longer part of "Brand Beckham" and describing his family as "performative".
While David and Victoria are said to be devastated by the fallout, Cruz has seemingly seen the funny side, appearing to poke fun at Brooklyn and his wife, actress Nicola Peltz, in a series of posts.
Following claims by Brooklyn that Victoria had danced "very inappropriately on" him at his 2022 wedding to Peltz, the internet exploded with memes, several of which Cruz was spotted liking.
Cruz also shared a TikTok video showing himself and brother Romeo Beckham riding in the back of a car with their girlfriends, captioning the clip: "Imagine hating and we’re just here like."
In his lengthy statement, Brooklyn claimed that Romeo and Cruz had been "sent" to attack him on social media, leading to his decision to "block" his brothers over the summer.
Pointed comments and online shade
Fans looking back amid the fallout spotted a series of pointed and humorous posts by the brothers. Cruz first appeared to "mock" Peltz after she shared a gushing comment under a post by Romeo's former girlfriend, model Mia Regan, featuring her cover shoot for Pop magazine in April.
Peltz wrote "so beautiful mia" under the post. Two days later, after Romeo shared a gallery of snaps on Instagram, Cruz poked fun at the remark by writing "So beautiful Romeo" underneath. Romeo responded with a string of crying laughing emojis, which has since been deleted.
In May, Cruz appeared to mimic yet another remark from Brooklyn. After Brooklyn posted a video of himself riding a motorbike with Peltz accompanied by a gushing caption stating he would "always choose" her, calling her his whole world and the most amazing person he knows, Cruz posted his own family tribute hours later.
Cruz reposted a family snap from Victoria's show at Paris Fashion Week, writing: "I love my family, I love you guys more than anything, mum & dad you gave us life and cared for us no matter what, I cannot tell you how blessed we all are to have you in our lives."
After Peltz and Brooklyn failed to attend David's 50th birthday celebrations, Cruz shared a cryptic post on Instagram Stories, writing: "It takes 43 muscles in your face to frown, and 17 to smile. Be kind and tell the truth."
Cruz also took a very public swipe at his brother's various career ventures, which have included cooking, sport, photography, and styling. After Cruz posted a video of himself playing guitar and singing, a follower commented asking if he was going to stick with the job or become a race car driver next. Cruz responded: "Wrong brother mate."
Addressing rumors and Instagram block
Cruz was also the first family member to publicly speak out on rumors about the fallout. When it was reported that Brooklyn was upset about Romeo’s relationship with Kim Turnbull because Brooklyn had once dated her, Cruz explicitly stated: "Brooklyn and Kim never dated." Turnbull later confirmed she had never dated Brooklyn.
Cruz was also quick to clear up claims that David and Victoria had unfollowed Brooklyn on Instagram last year, writing: "NOT TRUE My mum and dad would never unfollow their son.. Let’s get the facts right. They woke up blocked… as did I."
Brooklyn Beckham statement on family fallout
The online exchange follows Brooklyn's explosive statement, in which he said he had been silent for years and made every effort to keep matters private. Brooklyn stated he was left with no choice but to speak for himself after his parents and their team continued going to the press.
Declaring that he does not want to reconcile with his family, Brooklyn insisted he is standing up for himself for the first time after growing up under controlled press narratives. He claimed performative social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships were a constant fixture of his life.
Brooklyn alleged his parents tried endlessly to ruin his relationship since before his wedding. He claimed Victoria cancelled making Peltz's wedding dress at the eleventh hour, forcing her to find a new dress, and said his mum called him "evil" for including his Nanny Sandra and Peltz's Naunni at their table because neither grandmother had a husband.
He further claimed that weeks before the wedding, his parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe him into signing away rights to his name, which affected his payday and altered how his parents treated him. He added that members of his family told him the night before the wedding that Peltz was "not blood" and "not family."
Describing the wedding reception, Brooklyn claimed Victoria hijacked his planned first dance to a romantic love song. In front of 500 guests, singer Marc Anthony called him to the stage where Victoria was waiting to dance with him instead, dancing "very inappropriately on" him and leaving him feeling humiliated and uncomfortable.
Brooklyn also accused his family of putting "Brand Beckham" and public endorsements above all else, claiming family love is decided by social media posts and photo opportunities. He alleged his mum refused to support Peltz's effort to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, and said his family rejected him for a week in a London hotel room during David's birthday, refusing to see him unless Peltz was excluded or cameras were present. He stated that stepping away eliminated his overwhelming anxiety and brought him peace and privacy.
