Diluted Vinegar Spray Refreshes Bedding Between Washes

Cleaning experts recommend spraying diluted vinegar on sheets to neutralize odours between regular wash cycles, reports cronista.com.

Diluted Vinegar Spray Refreshes Bedding Between Washes

Spraying a mixture of diluted vinegar and water onto bed linen provides a quick way to refresh bedding between laundry days, according to a report by Argentine news outlet cronista.com.

Home cleaning experts noted that the simple household technique is growing in popularity, particularly in homes with limited ventilation or inside households with pets. However, specialists emphasized that the spray is designed purely for a quick refresh and cannot replace regular washing.

Vinegar contains acetic acid, an organic compound that works by neutralizing persistent odours rather than simply masking them with heavy fragrances. The solution specifically targets sweat and moisture that accumulate within fabric fibers overnight.

Although acetic acid possesses mild antimicrobial properties, cleaning experts warned that the homemade mixture should not be regarded as a proper disinfectant for bed sheets. White vinegar is widely recognized in domestic cleaning as a natural, non-toxic household solution, but high heat laundering remains necessary to remove dust mites and bacteria.

How to make and apply vinegar bedding spray

Preparing the refreshing spray requires just one cup of water mixed with a small amount of vinegar. Users may also add a few drops of essential oil if they prefer a pleasant fragrance. All ingredients should be combined in a spray bottle and shaken thoroughly before application.

Before treating an entire bed, users should test the mixture on a small, inconspicuous section of the sheet. The fabric should only receive a light, even mist rather than being soaked through.

After applying the spray, the mattress and bedding must be allowed to dry completely. The bedroom also needs proper ventilation to prevent moisture from lingering between the textile fibers, as excess dampness can damage bed linen.

Additional laundry tricks for household care

The source also highlighted other practical laundry hacks, including adding ice cubes to a washing machine. Clothes frequently emerge from the wash cycle heavily wrinkled, particularly when strong spin cycles cause garments to bunch together. Utilizing ice cubes helps smooth out fabric, saving extra time at the ironing board.

Additionally, Ukrainian news agency UNIAN previously reported on methods to prevent blankets and duvets from clumping into lumps inside the washing machine drum. Experts cited by UNIAN stressed that avoiding machine overload is essential to maintain the shape and structure of heavy bedding during laundering.
