SM-Clinic oncological surgeon Dmitry Penzov warned that a sedentary lifestyle can significantly increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer, one of the most dangerous oncological diseases. Speaking to Lenta.ru, Penzov identified a lack of physical activity as a hidden factor in bowel cancer development.

Penzov explained that spending almost the entire day without movement slows bowel function and causes more frequent constipation. He added that inactivity disrupts metabolic processes and increases body weight, changes that can lead over time to various diseases including colon cancer. He noted that regular workouts cannot always compensate for the effects of sitting all day.

According to Penzov, research confirms the link between inactivity and bowel cancer. Studies show that people with mostly sedentary lifestyles face an average 30 percent higher risk of colon cancer compared with those who move sufficiently.

Cancer symptoms and warning signs

Oncologist Jiri Kubes previously stated that people can ignore quiet cancer symptoms for months before seeking medical help. Kubes identified persistent fatigue as one of those subtle warning signs.
