Rusantsova said the main value of cabbage lies in its high fiber content. She explained that fiber increases the volume of intestinal contents, stimulates natural peristalsis and helps prevent constipation. She added that fiber also feeds beneficial gut microflora, supports the health of the intestinal lining and plays a role in regulating immunity.

Sauerkraut singled out as especially beneficial

Rusantsova said sauerkraut is particularly useful, noting that when prepared correctly it contains lactic acid bacteria that help maintain diversity in the gut microbiome.

No single food fixes digestion

At the same time, the doctor said no single food can fully solve digestive problems. She stressed that gut health depends on overall diet, adequate fluid intake, regular physical activity and a varied intake of plant-based foods.

Gastroenterologist Nuriya Dianova had earlier listed the best breakfast options, recommending whole grain foods for the first meal of the day.
