The winner of the 23rd edition of Big Brother Brazil She became famous, among other things, for admitting that she was in debt because of her dream of becoming a doctor. Amanda Meirelles he entered the global reality show with the intention of winning the prize to pay for the funding of his degree, which was done through the Higher Education Student Funding Fund (FIES).

But almost a year after receiving the largest prize ever paid by the program, R$2.8 million, he tells the truth and says he has not paid off the debt.

“I found out it wasn’t worth paying for it [o financiamento] all at once,” he revealed in an exclusive interview with Earth.

“I have always studied a lot about investments, so you discover that it is more convenient to invest the money, because the interests are pre-established, and pay with the interests, the monthly fee, which is already fixed, than to pay in advance and not have any discount ”, replies the doctor.

Under the program, Amanda said she pays R$3,000 a month to fund her college. “I think everything you have to achieve your dream is valid. And Fies was what helped me. I am the first person in my family to graduate thanks to student financing,” she says.

“I had already been to the same university once and I didn’t have the money to attend it, so the second time I was able to finance it 100%. So I am very grateful to these public policies that promote access to university,” she adds.

Career challenges

Amanda also briefly explained her routine as a new graduate. “I needed to work to save money to be able to financially organize my life, my family’s life. So I didn’t do residency, I took the bus to do my shifts. To compensate, I worked shifts that lasted several hours at a time because the commute was so long,” she says.

“I always had a lot of difficulty choosing what I wanted because I liked everything. I went to the intensive care unit, which includes all specialties. I worked with [medicina] intensive, I also had the covid part, so it was a period of great learning,” he explains.

The former BBB also reveals that he is finishing a postgraduate degree. “At the end of the pandemic I started a postgraduate course in dermatology. Two months away from completion, I actually intend to do it this year. I intend to study more because I like it,” he concludes.
