Gal Gadot confirms no talks for DCU Wonder Woman return

Actress Gal Gadot has clarified that she has held no specific conversations with DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn about returning as Wonder Woman.

The star indicated that her future as the superheroine is now distant after receiving no contact from executives following earlier discussions about a potential third solo film.

History in the DC Extended Universe

Gadot first appeared as Diana Prince in the divisive 2016 movie Batman v Superman, which marked the second installment in the DC franchise directed by Zack Snyder. Her performance established the character as one of the leading figures of Snyder's cinematic era.

Following her debut, Gadot starred in two standalone Wonder Woman films and appeared in several other franchise installments, including Justice League.

No talks regarding a DCU return

Uncertainty surrounding Gadot's role emerged after James Gunn was hired as co-CEO of DC Studios, a move that coincided with a partial reboot of the DCU. Although some actors and characters were retained for the updated universe, Gadot confirmed she has not had any specific talks about reprising her role.

Her statement also confirmed she has not discussed taking on a new character within the franchise, contrasting with Jason Momoa's transition to playing Lobo. Gadot noted that her last discussions with the studio took place when executives expressed interest in producing a third Wonder Woman film.

Message of support for the next actress

With no communication from studio leaders since those initial talks, Gadot offered a message of support and encouragement to the next actress who will assume the role in the newly started DCU.

Gadot described Wonder Woman as an incredible character cherished by many people. She wished whoever takes on the role in the future to enjoy the experience to the fullest, expressing her gratitude for having had the opportunity to step into the superheroine's shoes and celebrate the extraordinary character and everything she represents.

Status of the character

Gadot's final appearances as Diana Prince occurred during the closing stages of the original DCEU through consecutive cameo roles. Her confirmation that no talks have taken place serves as the first official update on her status in the years following those appearances.

Prior to her comments, no direct statements had been made regarding plans for the character, aside from a brief teaser from James Gunn indicating that a new actress had not yet been cast for the role.
