Geena Davis, 70, drew attention for her smooth skin at a Venice Film Festival event, which an aesthetic nurse says may involve subtle cosmetic treatments.

Geena Davis showed off her incredibly smooth features on Thursday as she attended the Elle BNP Paribas Women In Venice event during the Venice International Film Festival.

The actress, 70, cut a stylish figure in a sleek black gown paired with an embellished necklace and black pointed heels as she posed for photographers in the Italian city. She wore her auburn hair cascading over one shoulder and highlighted her age-defying complexion with a dewy makeup look.

Davis looks as though she has barely aged since bursting onto the acting scene with her role in Tootsie more than 40 years ago. She went on to star in Thelma and Louise and A League of Their Own, and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Accidental Tourist. She also founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which studies representation of women and girls on screen.

Her smooth complexion has led some fans to speculate that she may have had cosmetic work done. Davis has never commented on the surgery speculation, but she has credited daily SPF use with her youthful appearance. Last month she wowed fans at the premiere of The Wrong Girls in Los Angeles, beaming for cameras in an orange minidress.

Aesthetic nurse weighs in

Anastasia Koles, an aesthetic nurse and founder of ALTA Medi Clinic London, told the Daily Mail that subtle treatments rather than invasive surgery could be behind the actress's glowing look.

"Geena Davis has always been naturally beautiful and has aged incredibly well, but it's also likely that she's had a few subtle aesthetic treatments to help maintain such a youthful appearance at 70," Koles said.

Koles said Davis's skin looked "remarkably smooth, even-toned and radiant," which suggested she may favour treatments that improve skin quality, such as Lumecca IPL, which can reduce pigmentation, sun damage and redness. She said it was also possible Davis had used anti-wrinkle injections such as Botox to soften expression lines while keeping natural movement.

Looking at the lower part of her face, Koles said it was likely Davis had also had skin-tightening treatments such as Morpheus8 or other radiofrequency microneedling treatments, noting that her jawline and neck remained well defined. She said treatments that stimulate collagen could help maintain firmness in those areas "without creating an overfilled or unnatural appearance," and that a medical-grade skincare routine, chemical peels or gentle laser resurfacing, combined with sun protection, could produce a result that looks "refreshed, natural and age-appropriate rather than obviously done."

Davis credits sunscreen for her skin

In June, Davis was asked about her skin during an interview with New Beauty. "I'm firmly convinced that part of it is that I don't take the sun. I always have sunblock on. It's been that way since I was 22 or something," she said.

She said she decided decades ago to wear sunblock every day and stuck to it, and that she never got a tan as a child because she would burn if she avoided sun protection. "So, I think that really saved me a lot of problems with my skin. I've avoided the sun forever," she said.

No skincare routine, but a TikTok weakness

Davis also revealed she does not follow a dedicated skincare plan, telling New Beauty: "I don't do anything but I've been a sucker for buying some products I've seen on TikTok!"

"If I hear that something is anti-aging or will make my skin better, I buy it, but then I never use it! I have a whole display of these bottles on the counter in my bathroom, but I don't really use any of them," she said.

"Thank God I can get away with it because it would be really bad if I didn't do things that would help me out if I really needed it. It's not fair, but I get by fairly well," she added.

Proud to be 70

Despite looking, in her own words, half her age, Davis said she is proud to be 70. "I think it's fabulous," she told Yahoo in May.

"I've liked myself better every year. I even think I look better every year! I don't know if that will switch at some point. Maybe not. But it's fun. You don't worry about age anymore," she said.
