German countess Gunilla von Bismarck has returned to Marbella, expressing how deeply she misses her late partner Luis Ortiz during her summer visit. Speaking with eyes full of tears to the news agency Europa Press during her latest visit to the Starlite Occident festival, she said they were very happy together and that she misses him immensely.
Von Bismarck explained that what she misses most about Ortiz is his sense of humor and his character, adding that there are not many people like him and that he never took anything too seriously. Ortiz died at the age of 80 on September 16, 2024, following a battle with prostate cancer, leaving a void for her and in the collective memory of the Spanish jet set.
Decades on the Costa del Sol
Although von Bismarck and Ortiz had legally divorced on paper, they remained inseparable soulmates until his death. Decades ago, the couple established themselves as central figures during the golden age of Spain's Costa del Sol, when international high society gathered every summer at exclusive local clubs in Marbella.
Their charismatic presence defined Marbella long before political corruption scandals, the arrival of oligarchs, and mass tourism altered the area. Faithful to Marbella and her strict social calendar, von Bismarck continues to showcase a bright smile whenever she arrives in the city that holds so many fond memories.
Life in Marbella
At 76 years old, the countess continues to enjoy Marbella nightlife with high energy, though she has naturally adjusted the nature and frequency of her outings for her age. She has also stated that she needs to care for her mind and recover her peace, having transitioned over time from a jet-set muse into a prominent backgammon player in Marbella.
