A homeowner renovating his property uncovered a giant gap between a wall and window frame hidden under old wallpaper, British news publication Mirror reported.
Photos shared by the resident showed the cavity alongside a second image where he held up his hand to demonstrate the scale of the opening. He explained that the wallpaper had been glued directly over a piece of plastic trim that concealed the space.
Seeking guidance online, the homeowner asked for recommendations on the best materials to fill both the internal and external gaps around the frame.
One respondent advised using expanding foam topped with a PVC plastic strip, noting that window and door installers commonly rely on that method. Another user recommended selecting a low expansion door and window foam, advising him to protect the outer section to prevent leakage before trimming the cured material and finishing with silicone sealant. A third commenter joked that the opening served as a free air conditioning upgrade, suggesting he apply caulk and foam before plastering over the cavity.
