Model Lauren Jaine has revealed she suffered horrific second degree burns across her stomach and legs after spilling a hot chocolate while flying back from a holiday in Italy with her boyfriend, Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin.
The social media update saw Jaine share the extent of her injuries on TikTok over the weekend, filming herself replacing her medical dressings following the in-flight accident.
Warning viewers about the graphic nature of the video, Jaine explained that she was recording the footage to outline how the scalding occurred while she reapplied her bandages.
"I am gonna do a story time about how I got second degree burns all over my stomach and my legs while I redo my bandages," Jaine told fans. "So if you don't like gruesome things, don't watch."
In-flight hot chocolate accident
The incident took place on board a plane returning to the UK from Italy, where the couple had been vacationing. After ordering a hot beverage during the flight, Jaine spilled the liquid over her body.
"Yeah, so I got my hot chocolate and I don't really know what happened but I think Nikita nudged me," Jaine recalled in the video.
Kuzmin, a professional dancer on the BBC hit show Strictly Come Dancing, immediately contested the suggestion during the clip.
"No, okay, I'm not doing this with you," Kuzmin hit back. "She literally always put hot chocolate on herself. She is a little bit clumsy, and you put stuff all over yourself all the time."
Jaine conceded that the spill was her own doing while describing her immediate reaction to the intense heat.
"I poured the hot chocolate all over my stomach," Jaine admitted to the camera. "And then I had to run to the bathroom whilst I was burning and I don't think you really knew what was going on."
Cabin crew members rushed to assist the model during the flight, providing emergency first aid supplies before the aircraft landed.
"And the air hostesses were giving me ice and burn creams and everything, and then when we landed, the pilot made this super embarrassing announcement where he basically said, 'Everyone, stay on the plane. The paramedics coming,' which is super embarrassing," Jaine said.
Paramedic response and recovery
Emergency medical services were called to the aircraft upon arrival. Paramedics had to board the plane when it landed to assess and treat Jaine's injuries.
Second degree burns affect both the outer layer of skin, known as the epidermis, and the deeper dermis layer beneath. Such scalds from high-temperature liquids frequently cause painful blistering, redness, and potential scarring.
As Jaine changed her dressing on camera, applying antiseptic cream and fresh wound gauze, she asked her social media followers for medical advice to aid her recovery.
"If anyone has had a scald before, please let me know what you did to like help scarring because I'm so worried I'm gonna have a massive scar here, which is not ideal," Jaine pleaded with viewers. "So if anyone has any tips or like lotions or special things I can put on this to help it heal the best, that would be amazing."
Relationship background
Kuzmin publicly confirmed his romance with Jaine in October 2023 by sharing a series of romantic photos together on his Instagram account. The couple had reportedly been quietly dating for several months prior to making their relationship public on social media.
Earlier that month, Jaine attended the Strictly Come Dancing studios in London, sitting in the audience to support Kuzmin during a live broadcast of the competition.
The relationship progressed further when Kuzmin's sister, Anastasia, flew to the UK to visit the dancer. During her trip, Anastasia met Jaine for an evening out at the theatre, with the pair sharing selfies online.
An insider told tabloid newspaper The Sun at the time: "Nikita and Lauren have been dating for months and seem to have an amazing connection... The pair have tried to keep their romance under the radar but they have been attending events together and are really enjoying each other's company."
