The video of a Colombian doctor removing a cockroach from a patient’s ear has gone viral on TikTok and has already reached more than 2.8 million views, 40,000 likes and 11,000 comments on the app.

“Damn cockroaches,” the doctor wrote in the caption of the recording. Already at the beginning of the recording it is possible to identify the professional by removing the insect from the patient’s ear. The animal manages to escape the metal clamp used in the procedure, but is then pulled away from the victim.
The video does not report how the animal ended up there. The doctor responsible for the registration is called Paula Avalos and is a resident of the Departmental Hospital of Villavicencio, in Meta, Colombia.
What to do in similar situations
The episode portrayed in the images, however, is not as rare as it seems. Rio de Janeiro actress Bárbara Puntel reportedly experienced a similar situation while she was pregnant with her first child.
According to the actress, the ear discomfort started at night, when she was 19 years old. She noticed that the pain stopped when she squeezed her ear, but it returned as soon as she let her ear rest.
The actress sought out a doctor, who decided to give her a wash to better understand what was going on. At her UOL, the actress revealed that her animal came out of her ear still alive.
According to experts, it is common for inanimate objects and even living beings to enter the ear of patients. If you experience pain, discomfort, or noises that make you think you have an insect in your ear, try and get someone to help you out by using a flashlight or magnifying glass to see inside the ear. .
Doctors do not recommend removing the insect yourself, as this can push it further into the ear, as well as injure the eardrum or other parts of the organ.
If the discomfort with movement is very severe and it is impossible to go to the emergency room at the moment, the patient can drip three or four drops of alcohol or mineral oil (used to soften the skin) into the ear to kill the insect. But this does not exclude the need to go to the doctor to remove the body from the ear.
