Grail Unit has a grassy area and a space with tables and chairs where dogs can also enter
From São Paulo, the route for those headed to Campos do Jordão and other destinations in the Serra da Mantiqueira can be via the Ayrton Senna-Carvalho Pinto system (SP-070), where one of the first chances to stop is at the Grail Market, at the height of Guararema.
I had already been to this branch of the bus station network a few times and, on my latest visit, I found some good news for those traveling with pets. Like me: I was going Campos do Jordão with my husband and our six month old puppy, Lika.
Next to the car park, the Grail Market It has a large grassy area where dogs can stretch their legs and do their business (don’t forget to bring your bags). There are also water fountains and cisterns to ensure the hydration of the animals.
Naturally, animals are not allowed in the catering area, which has a buffet by the kilo and stations with burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. But the Grail has created an excellent strategy for those traveling with animals.
Now there are two cashiers to pay. From the existing cash register you can access the area with tables and chairs where animals cannot enter. From the new one, called “Caixa Pets”, you access a separate space – also covered and with tables and chairs – intended for those with dogs.
In this way one of the humans will be able to enter the restaurant area, choose what to eat, pay at the “Pet Box” and take the tray to the pet friendly area. In our case we did it like this: while my husband walked with Lika on the lawn, I prepared the dishes for both of us at the kilo buffet and then we sat down together to eat.
At every other stop we would have to take turns: while one eats, the other stays outside with Lika. Or we’d end up grabbing a quick snack to eat on the sidewalk.
The solution also prevents owners from leaving their dogs tied up alone outside or, worse, trapped inside the car (which can even be considered a crime of mistreatment pursuant to article 32 of law 9,605/98).
