Walking Dead, stop or still? Here are the first thoughts of the press and fans on the new series

The Walking Dead franchise has never been more prolific since the main series ends in December 2022. Three new series saw the light of day: Dead City with Maggie and Negan, Daryl Dixon with Norman Reedus and finally The Ones Who Live. A mini-series celebrating the big return of Rick Grimes and Michonne!

Five years after his sudden departure from the horror series, the former sheriff, played by Andrew Lincoln, reappears in a militaristic society called the Civil Republic. Totally expected by fans, has this series managed to convince netizens and the French press?

What does the press think?

Average press rating: 3.4 out of 5

According to Téléstar (4/5):

“A renewed performance in this spin-off that makes us feel more than we expected, because at its beating heart is the love story – obviously always complicated – with Michonne.

According to Le Parisien (3.5/5):

“The spirit of the original series is respected, with its contract of cutting-edge zombies, gruesome scenes and dramatic twists. But also an almost romantic dimension, the love between Rick and Michonne, which is the engine of the narrative.”

According to Télé 7 Jours (3.5/5):

“Dark, gore, centered around Rick and Michonne, the new spin-off marks the return of acting duo Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln.”

According to the premiere (2.5/5):

“A spin-off series in the form of a how-to guide, ‘The Walking Dead: The Living’ sometimes feels drained of all passion. A spin-off for a story whose sole reason is to complete a puzzle. Mythology TWD.

What do internet users think?

Average internet user rating: 4.1 out of 5

According to Laetitia Matzneff (5/5):

“As much as I’m worried about Daryl Dixon’s spin-off series, even if he’s my favorite character from the first franchise, I wasn’t expecting much from this new spin-off.

Rick Grimes character pissed me off in the original version and here he is different and much better and makes me want to see him reunite with Michonne. The first episode is quite scary. On arrival, I look forward to the rest.”

According to Bruno D. (5/5):

“Finally the main character comes back to the fore and what a comeback! The music, the dark atmosphere, Ricky ends his attachment and we know that the more we push him the more dangerous he is, a must watch series. Can’t wait for vf. “

According to Marwan El Nisir (5/5):

“That’s a big slap in the face to us fans. But what a return! Wow, like the once charismatic, good old Rick Grimes playing on our emotions, thanks for this brilliant first episode.”

According to Lionel33000 (3.5/5):

“A new mini-series on the Walking Dead universe and it does its job… We find 2 main characters from the iconic series for 6 episodes. A must-see for fans.”

According to Ja Z (2/5):

Nothing special, it’s the 12th season of The Walking Dead, it’s just a sequel, but with a new title and a new character and bad leads as always.
