In 2016, the movie “La La Land” became a phenomenon thanks to its story, dramatic twists, chemistry between the actors and of course its heartwarming ending. While it might be thought that this movie has nothing to do with ‘Joker 2’, the internet has proven otherwise, and here we are explaining it to you.
Similarities Between ‘Joker 2’ and ‘La La Land’
“La La Land” is a musical romance-drama directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. The story takes place in Los Angeles and follows the story of Mia, an aspiring actress who works as a barista in a Hollywood cafe, and Sebastian, a jazz pianist who struggles to stay true to his musical principles in an increasingly commercial world.
On the other hand, “Joker: Folie à Deux” is a psychological thriller directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Arthur Fleck, best known as Batman’s arch-nemesis in the comics. The first trailer released weeks ago revealed that Arthur will meet Harley Quinn, with whom he will have a romantic relationship.
At first glance, it may seem impossible that these two very different films have anything in common. However, netizens point out that they share some details.
It’s musical
A Variety report confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ will take the form of a musical, with around 15 songs, meaning there will be plenty of music, choreography and dancers to accompany the story, elements that were also incorporated into the “La La Land”.
Unfortunately, this news wasn’t entirely well received, as fans were divided between those who love the idea of the sequel being called a musical and those who hate it because they claim it doesn’t follow the ideology of the DC films.

One of the elements that both films share is the loneliness and search for identity of the main characters. In “La La Land,” Mia and Sebastian struggle to find their place in the worlds of film and music, respectively, and face the loneliness and frustration that comes with pursuing a dream in a big, competitive city.
In “Joker 2,” Arthur Fleck also struggles to find his place in the world and faces loneliness and social marginalization. His transformation proves to be a way for him to find a sense of identity and purpose in a world that has rejected him, and he will also rely on Harley Quinn to achieve his goals, which the pair do in the other film.

There’s no doubt that Mia and Sebastian’s dance that we saw 8 years ago will be a direct inspiration for Joker and Harley’s, since the setting is very similar and both protagonists have a formal white dress.
