NASA’s Solar Dynamics observatory captured a strong explosion from sunspot AR3663, which caused radio wave blackouts in Asia, Europe and Africa
The group of Sunspots AR3663 remains in stock. This Monday (6), the spots released a solar flare classified as X4.5 (high intensity), which caused the temporary or total loss of radio signals in Asia, as well as in some parts of Europe and South Africa .
Solar flares occur when the Sun’s strong magnetic fields reconnect. They are classified by intensity: the weakest are class B, while the strongest are class X. Since the Sun is on its way to the peak of its cycle, class X explosions are expected throughout the year.
The event was recorded by the “eyes” of the observatory Solar dynamicsfrom the NASA. Note the increase in brightness of the solar disk recorded in the extreme ultraviolet.
This eruption is the fourth in a series of events that began a few days ago. Thursday evening (2), the spot group shot at X1.6 class explosion, which was accompanied by a coronal mass ejection. The event caused radio blackouts in Australia, Japan and parts of China.
🌞 📰 Solar news for May 6, 2024: X flare! Twice
💥 😱 🤩 An X4.5 glow! This was after one X1.1 flare and 11 M flares. Most of the events were from AR3663, 2 X flares and 9 M flares.

The following morning a new explosion occurred, coming from the same point. Don’t think that the region has calmed down: Sunday (5), the points AR 3663 and AR 0601 caused explosions of the X1.3 and X1.2 classes which caused radio blackouts in some regions of the Earth.
These events show that the AR3663 group of spots is the most active in the current solar cycle, and it is possible that more surprises await us: according to forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there is a 50% probability that they will occur more X-class explosions in the next 24 hours.
