He’s not the first, and he certainly won’t be the last, but after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds wanted to weigh in on the subject. On August 29, the actor spoke at length in favor of recognizing stunt work at the Oscars in a post on X (formerly Twitter), read below.
Stunt work does not have a category at the Oscars, and I hope that changes someday. A lot of movies destroyed it this year. Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Chaplin were stunt performers as well as filmmakers. They tell stories with their whole bodies.

“Stunts don’t have a category at the Oscars, and I hope that changes one day. So many movies were hits this year. Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Chaplin There were stuntmen and film directors. They told stories with their whole bodies.
This Deadpool & Wolverine stunt team did better than that. Many of them are friends I’ve worked with over the years and I’ll spend the rest of my days writing their names in my Heidi notebooks with little hearts on the “y”.
i work Alex Kishkovich From the very first movie dead pool. He not only doubles, he is the fight coordinator. I’d take a face-to-face swim for Alex. Rather, Alex should face Alex.
Second Division Director/Stunt Coordination Head, George Cottleis a huge purchase. You saw his genius Spider-Man: No Way Home As well as tons of other gems. His talent is world class and he has enhanced the entire film. I’d let Alex stick a rusty fork in George’s eye.
It’s mind boggling how many things Hugh Jackman performed alone. But Daniel Stevens It interferes with really dangerous things. He has been “Wolverine” for a long time. As we know, Wolverine is complicated. I asked Alex to eat the crab salad that I left on the board for three days straight for Danny.
Thank you very much Andy Lister Also for bringing Crazy Wolvie new gear to the Deadpool Corps battle.
If you’d like to see an Academy Award ceremony that recognizes the incredible work of stunt teams across the industry, let them know!“
Below the post, he’s posted tons of photos of these stuntmen for you to review, and added some other names to keep in mind.
Additional D&W Tricks:
Colin Follenweider: Main Division Stunt Coordinator
Dan Stevens: Double Wolverine
Liang Yang: Stunt Coordinator for Part 2
Andy Lister: Assistant Stunt Coordinator
Kevin Fortin: Stunt Performer
Danny Ramos – Wiz Work / Toad
Zack Henry – Rig Coordinator…

And he’s not the only one making this claim!
indeed Ryan Reynolds Not the first to call for stunt performers to be recognized at the Oscars. During an interview with Deadline last year, John Wick director Chad Stahelski, a former professional stuntman, also spoke on the subject.
“I think if I went to the Academy right now and said, “Do any of you think stunts shouldn’t be at the Oscars?” Can you find just one person? I don’t think so. Well, what’s the problem here? The problem is that no one is talking about it.“
He continued: “I will ask you a question now and you will help me to ask them a question. There’s no good reason not to have stunts at the Oscars. No one denies that we are at least equal to all other departments. We are all part of the film, as in the Hollywood tradition, as the music, the costumes, the technical achievements, the director or the cinematographer. And no one in these departments denies it. I just think we haven’t had that conversation. I think there are challenges ahead.“
And Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt won’t say no to their upcoming action stunt story, The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch (John Wick), a former stuntman himself, and they made it known… on stage at the Oscars earlier this year.
“We are here to celebrate the stunt community that has been a crucial part of our industry since the beginning of cinema. True, they are heroes we will never know who risk life and limb for cinema.
Chaplin, Lloyd, Keaton… all the stuntmen are really the oxygen of the story’s action. The Academy’s history is steeped in the fierce dedication of the stunt community. Every award season we see their work in this genre.
Of Butch Cassidy has black pantherFrom the depths of space to battlefields and beyond, stunt performers and the action scenes they create are some of the most memorable moments in cinematic history.
And they do it from the beginning. To all the stunt performers and stunt coordinators who help make this movie magic, we salute you.“
And what does the Academy think?
According to Oscar Academy Executive Director Bill Cramer, things could really change soon after Gosling and Blunt’s performance: “We will discuss this possibility with members of the stunt community who are part of the Academy– he told Empire at the last Cannes Film Festival. “We’ve added an award for casting directors that will go live in two years, so we’re always open to discussion.“
“Academia is like a living, breathing organismPresident Janet Young added. “We listen to our members, so if there’s real support, if we find real mechanisms to advance their cause, and if they’re interested… that’s what happened with the casting. We have established new branches for decades. It is evolving as an industry.“
This seems to bode well.
In the meantime, rediscover the performances of many of these stuntmen in Deadpool & Wolverine on the big screen at a cinema near you. Fall Guy, on the other hand, is available on VOD. Or else, there’s always John Wick: Chapter 4 to re-watch on Prime Video streaming.
