For Edmond Dantes, revenge is a dish best served cold. And as many guests as possible around the table. Released in theaters on June 28, the new adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo, directed by Mathieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellier, attracted 8,664,506 viewers in three months.
This makes it the second film directed by Pierre Nin to open in French cinemas (ahead of Vice Versa 2 and after Un p’tit truc en plus). But above all, the 21st greatest success of all time in France. Before the fabulous fortunes of Amelie Poulin and the Bataillon du Ciel, which he had just overtaken. And behind Asterix and Obelix against Caesar, who will not remain unturned for long.

To date, more than 100,000 viewers have watched The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar. So, from the top 20 greatest French hits of all time. And as it continues to reach over 100,000 entries every week, it’s only a matter of days before it hits it. And then drop the cow and the prisoner and the Emanuel points.
and then The nine million mark is clearly out of reach, as are The Bear, The Big Blue and Le Dîner de cons. The rest will depend on his retention and his ability to approach the ten mark, and his video release isn’t scheduled until November 6th.
It’s hard to see him going that far at this point, and there’s little else to tickle other than who should remain the 2024 champion. But who would have predicted that the Count of Monte Cristo would do such a thing. A trip to our rooms?
