The film produced by the famous director will premiere in November with historical images remastered in 4K
Rescue from Beatlemania
Disney+ has released the trailer for “Beatles ’64.” After “The Beatles: Get Back”, by Peter Jackson, the new production revisits the English band’s first tour in the United States, produced by Martin Scorsese. The preview combines historical images from the era portrayed with recent interviews from fans who witnessed the Beatles’ impact, as well as bringing testimonials from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to the director of “Goodfellas.”
Produced by Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi (who worked together on “Personality Crisis: One Night Only,” about singer David Johansen, of the band New York Dolls), the film is based on recordings by other directors. The main scenes were captured by directors Albert and David Maysle, who followed the English rockers for five days for the special “What’s Happening! The Beatles in the USA” (1964), as well as the CBS television network, which was responsible for recording the program “The Ed Sullivan Show.” It’s worth pointing out that this material had already been remastered for the tour’s 30th anniversary commemorative DVD, “The Beatles: The First US Visit” (1994).
Historic presentation and record audience
The Beatles’ first performance on the Ed Sullivan Show became a milestone in pop culture and was responsible for spreading “Beatlemania” in the United States, as it was seen by more than 73 million people. The band’s appearance set audience records and consolidated their popularity among teenage audiences, thanks to the appeal of romantic lyrics such as “All My Loving” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand”.
In addition to playing on TV, the Beatles played 32 shows in the United States and Canada during that period, with the Washington concert recorded by cameras and shown in theaters, giving rise to the genre of concert documentaries.
Remastered images
The production features images remastered by Peter Jackson’s company, which used the same technology applied in “Get Back”, to achieve 4K resolution and improved audio.
The premiere is scheduled for November 29th.
