Criminal Mind: This detail deeply annoys the audience

Criminal Minds is back with a new seventeenth season on TF1! An opportunity for fans of the series to find their favorite characters for exciting new explorations. It aired in the US last summer, but the episode drew a lot of criticism for a very surprising reason.

Viewers complained that the episodes were too dark visually. At TVLine, netizens also took advantage of a question-and-answer session with series showrunner Erica Messer to ask her for clarification:

“The most important question: Will we finally get to see what happens in the episodes?” Another viewer agrees: “I would have given this season an A, but the darkness of each episode made things difficult! I persevered, but there were many moments when I almost gave up.”

As you can see from the example above, there really is a difference between the advertising photos and the actual image on the screen. But then, what does the showrunner think? He responded to our American colleagues at TVLine:

“You’re not the first to tell me about that.”

“I’ve heard about this problem before. You’re not the first to tell me about it. I’ve talked to the director of photography and even some technicians about it. The series that we all see in theaters that unites us and that we’re all in. Give us our approval, it’s not It’s dark, I don’t know what’s going on.”

“it annoys me”

He continues confidently: “When I look at it on my computer, I know it’s darker because the image is compressed. When I watch it on TV, it’s brighter than on set, and it annoys me. I thought it was my TV and there was an adjustment. To be done, but not!”

“When I watch other content on Paramount+ or Apple TV, the shows have the right visual feel and look exactly as they should. I think maybe that’s because people are watching streaming series on their computer and not on TV now.”

“I know it’s dark on the computer, but it’s not dark on the TV. Either way, I know what we’re getting on TV isn’t dark.” he concludes. A response that seems to confirm that this won’t be changing anytime soon!
