Actress Zosia Mamet, known for her work in the series “Girls” and “The Flight Attendant”, is the latest addition to the cast of “Madame Web” (Madame Web), a film derived from the Spider-Man universe .

Mamet, whose role has not been announced, joins the stellar cast that includes Dakota Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Gray”), Mike Epps (“The Upshaws”), Adam Scott (“Rupture”), Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria “), Celeste O’Connor (” Ghostbusters: Beyond “), Isabela Merced (” Dora and the Lost City “) and Tahar Rahim (” The Mauritanian “).

Created in the comics by Denny O’Neil (one of Batman’s best writers / editors) and John Romita Jr. (son of one of Spider-Man’s greatest designers) in 1980, Madame Web emerged as an elderly mutant named Cassandra Webb, who suffered from a neuromuscular disease that left her paralyzed and blind, but gave her psychic powers of telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition. , allowing it to predict future events.

An important detail of the character’s story is that, after being “dead” for the first time, Cassandra passed her powers – and her blindness – to an “heiress”: Julia Carpenter, originally the second Spider-Woman, who became also Madame Web. Thanks to her new powers, she ended up becoming important for the connection between the characters of the different dimensions of the Spider-Verse. To top it off, she is still trained in martial arts from none other than Shang-Chi.

Another relevant information is that Cassandra Webb has mentored not only Julia Carpenter, but several generations of Spider-Women, from the first, Jessica Drew, to Mattie Franklin and her granddaughter Charlotte Witter. None of this, however, should be explored in the film’s plot, which will focus on the youth of the title character, played by Johnson.

The screenplay was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (responsible for the failed “Morbius” film, also set in Sony’s Spider-Man universe) and Kerem Sanga (“Raging Heart”). The direction is entrusted to SJ Clarkson (of the series “Jessica Jones”).

“Madame Web” will be released on October 6, 2023.

In addition to her role in “The Flight Attendant”, Zosia Mamet was recently seen in the drama “Alone Together” directed by actress Katie Holmes (“Brahms: Doll of Evil II”). She will also voice a character in the animation “Jodie”, yet without a premiere date.
