Why Kiss Will Retire This Year According to Paul Stanley

The band’s second farewell tour, End of the Road, has shows scheduled until December

Interestingly, farewell tour is not something new for the kiss. Two decades before announcing the end of the roadtour that should end the band’s activities later this year, the band performed a tour called Farewell Tour that would represent the end of everything.

At the time, between 2000 and 2001, the group had its original formation, composed by Paul Stanley (voice and guitar) Gene Simmons (voice and bass), Ace Frehley (guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and voice). However, at the end of the tour, what fans saw was precisely the sequence of activities, in addition to the disbandment of two members: Frehley and Criss, who had been out since the early 1980s and had returned in 1996. They were replaced respectively per Tommy Thayer It is Eric Singer.

In an interview with LookStanley was asked about the promised end of the tour end of the road to be “for real” or not. The musician said that “no one is 100% sure of anything” – “if you’re alive, you can change your mind”, but added that there is no way for Kiss to continue. The reason lies in the age of the main members: Paul is 71 and Gene is 73.

“What we do is like a marathon, and there are no athletes our age. We carried about 20 kilos of costumes for over two hours. It takes a toll. That’s why I don’t think a new tour is possible in the future.”

Starchild, the character through which he is known, also highlighted something curious: the end of his band occurs due to circumstances that are a little different from what he is used to seeing around.

“It’s one thing for a band to break up because its members fought, it’s another thing to break up because we’ve reached our limit. We love each other.”

Paul Stanley’s health

At another point in the conversation, Paul Stanley was invited to reflect on the various surgeries he has performed over the years as a result of wear and tear on stage. Something natural for a musician with 50 years on the road and more than 2,500 concerts performed all over the planet.

“I had eight surgeries. That’s more surgeries than the average person would do in five lifetimes. I do things that athletes stopped doing a long time ago at my age. I’m glad there are doctors, procedures and therapies to rejuvenate and repair you. But there is a limit. What I do onstage most people half my age couldn’t do.”

Two years ago, in an interview with SiriusXM (via Ultimate Guitar), the artist spoke about some of the procedures he has been submitted to so far. According to him, interventions were made in the arms, shoulders, hips and knees.

KISS (Disclosure)

“My two rotator cuffs were repaired. My biceps tendon ruptured about a year and a half ago and that had to be repaired with surgery. I ended up with cartilage in both knees and that was taken care of. I got a hip replacement.”
