Acting legend James Brolin has such a history, as he was practically cast for the role of James Bond octopusbut he lost the role at the last minute to Roger Moore.

How and why James Brolin landed the role in Octopussy

During our interview on behalf of Brolin’s role in Light yearwe have to talk about the moment in Bond history when he almost became America’s first 007. He certainly he wasn’t the only Yankee to be considered for the role, like the story of actors who almost played James Bond it also included the likes of Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds.

However, the story told by James Brolin is reminiscent of the one he saw Pierce Brosnan loses living daytime running lights on the goal line. Starting his story with the circumstances that saw him audition for the role in the first place, Brolin told Gossipify about the time Roger Moore nearly canceled two films before he made it:

They were interested: Roger Moore said that was it, he wouldn’t be doing Bonds anymore. And so they were looking at who was good and, as you know, they made some strange decisions in the past. Guys who took a picture and then disappeared. Anyway, I go shopping and get dressed like you see James Bond at a party, and fly to meet me. [Albert] “Cubby” Broccoli, and guide me. We found ourselves very well, from the first moment. We argued about the dialect and I said, ‘Well, you know, as an actress from New York, you know I’m a little snooty?’ I said, ‘We will be lonely somehow [Midatlantic] with that. We will not specify. And he said ‘Sounds good’.

As the story goes on, Roger Moore’s James Bond Era it could have ended after 1977 the spy who loved me, as that was the scope of his original contract with 007. However, Moore would keep the games interesting by committing film-by-film for the remainder of his tenure. 1983 was a particularly fruitful time to do this, as there was another offer on the table for Sir Roger to entertain himself.

Incidentally, that offer was also on Sean Connery’s table and a conversation between the two Commander Bonds would have defined a great year in James Bond history. Who would have thought never say never it would really matter to the fate of the main EON Productions 007 franchise.

Octopussy’s conversation that brought Roger Moore back to 007

Sitting on the fence to know if he really wanted to leave after 1981 Reserved, Roger Moore and Sean Connery discussed their joint job offer. As a producer, Jack Schwartzman worked with Kevin McClory on one of his many remake attempts thunderthe position of competitor James Bond needed someone in charge to take the role.

Who better to ask what? of them 007 potentially out to play the other guy? However, Sir Roger’s decision depended on Sir Sean’s. as it says today’s schedule (through Youtube ) during the promotion octopus Released in 1983, Moore let the first Bond drive:

Of course, Jack Schwartzman came up to me and asked me if I wanted to do this or if I wanted to do it. So yeah, sure, he gave me some leverage. I said to Sean, ‘What do you want to do?’ and he didn’t want to be Cubby, so I’m here and he’s there.

While Roger Moore wondered whether or not he would accept the role of James Bond in The competitive adventure 007’s non-EON cannon , James Brolin worked hard. After he got the audition to become the fourth potential actor in the role, he would end up shooting two auditions to prove he was worthy of the job.

How Sam Neill’s on-screen test of reluctant bond Brolin filmed a version of the introduction between Bond and Tatiana Romanova in 1963 From Russia with love. In fact, it had a slight edge when it came to octopus, as she demonstrated with Maud Adams, that she was cast for the role of titular smuggler. The chemistry and, surprisingly, the accent works quite well in this segment of the sequence.

However, the actual indication that the eventual protagonist of the TV series Hotel was a pretty serious contender in this stunt test that Brolin pulled. You can see this evidence for yourself below, which is also pretty impressive for this time in 007’s story.

Unfortunately, it didn’t have to be. Sean Connery chose to do it never say neverturns 1983 into a comparison between obligations and duties who would see octopus published a few months before the unofficial 007 entry. Which meant Roger Moore would trigger this conclusion on James Brolin’s James Bond story:

I have done two tests, which are online. I trained with doubles, picked my apartment, went home to get my things. And Roger Moore said, “Well, I think I’ll do another one.” The end of the story. … But you know … [in] in this case, you better know it will be like this for your entire life, and carry on, you know?

There doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings on James Brolin’s part when it comes to his James Bond experience. For a brief moment, we almost saw an American cast as Ian Fleming’s literary super spy; and from the footage there, it wouldn’t have been a terrible move. It’s another “what if?” which makes the history of the 007 franchise one of the richest experiences to investigate in the world of cinema.

As we celebrate James Bond’s 60th birthday and await further updates on who will be the seventh actor in the role, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.
