Lightyear had a different opening scene until Bob Iger inspired his change with an important question.

Films undergo all kinds of changes on the way to cinema. The scripts are rewritten. Scenes are cut during the editing process. Making movies is a fluid activity. This tends to happen less in an animated film because each sequence takes a long time to animate, wasting time in a scene that doesn’t survive the process is useless. But Lightyear, the new Pixar adventure with Chris Evans, Keke Palmer and James Brolin apparently it had an alternate opening sequence, which was changed when former Walt Disney president Bob Iger asked the film’s director a question.

Angus MacLane recently caught up with Gossipify as part of the press day for Light yearand beyond opening up the LGBTQ + moment that prompted him to stay in the film , the director told us about his initial plans for the film’s release. As he explained:

Originally, the opening was the first mission. Because we knew we wanted time dilation. But we didn’t know why we wanted time dilation. And so the accident allowed us to have him. But more than anything, we started the movie, and I don’t think I’ve mentioned it yet, but Buzz wasn’t a Space Ranger when we started. And it was about him becoming a Space Ranger. And what happened is that it took too long to get him in … he became like, ‘Yeah, yeah. I know he becomes a Space Ranger! So, as an audience member … actually it was Bob Iger who said, “Why can’t you start with the costume?” And we said, “He can’t because … wait, yes, why can’t he?” So we added (like) we’re going to give Buzz Lightyear action right away so audiences WANT to go back. They feel the need to say: ‘Yes, put it back in the suit!’ So when he gets the dress, you say, “Great, that’s what he wants.” He wants to be nostalgic for what he was. And this has become a point of history.

As many of us know by now (unless you’re Patricia Heaton ), Light year It should be Andy’s movie toy story saw it made him wish he had a Buzz Lightyear toy to begin with. Officially licensed Lightyear movie toy can’t use Chris Evans voice, so he used Tim Allen … and this is why Allen doesn’t voice Buzz in the new movie . But you can understand why Angus MacLane may have felt the need to over-explain Buzz’s origin in this film, as it would be the first time audiences had met the character. However, Iger suggested getting in with Buzz right away as the Space Ranger was already the smart move.

The end of Light year suggests there are more missions than Pixar could count in this universe, and it still doesn’t alter the timeline the studio established toy story. Yes Light year it was a hit in Andy’s world, the fictional studio behind it no doubt made sequels. Except for, Light year hasn’t been very successful in our world, not being able to win Jurassic world: domination At the box office and barely surpasses the giant Top Gun: Maverick in its fourth weekend of screenings. So it could be one and done.
