The success of ‘Thriller’, an album released in 1982, reached a new milestone on the platform
More than 40 years after the launch of Thrillerthe songs from the album Michael Jackson continue to be very successful. “Billie Jean” and “Beat It”, from the 1982 album, surpassed one billion views on YouTube, alongside “They Don’t Care About Us (Brazil Version)”, released in 1995.
“Billie Jean”, however, is the only one to reach the 1.5 billion views mark on the platform, becoming the most watched of Michael Jackson.
The track’s controversial lyrics raised several theories about its meaning. “Billie Jean is not my lover / She’s just a girl who claims I’m the only one / But the child is not my daughter,” goes the chorus.
There are those who say that the song talks about an experience lived by the singer. He reportedly received letters from a mentally ill woman who claimed that one of her children was from Michael.
Another hypothesis suggests that the song refers to the tennis player Billie Jean King. However, the musician confirmed that the lyrics talk about the groupies he met when he was still a member of The Jackson 5.
