In early 1993, the legendary Johnny Cash (1932-2003) found himself unsigned, after a career spanning nearly four decades, and recorded an album of demos of compositions at LSI studiesin Nashville (USA), with the songs he had written over many years.
At the time, the LSI it was owned by his son-in-law Mike Daniels and his daughter Roseyand wanted to help his family financially, while at the same time recording the music for which he had a special affection.
Shortly after the fruitful session, Johnny met the producer Rick Rubinthese recordings were archived, and the two embarked on a major and prolific musical collaboration that revitalized the singer’s career. Man in black until the end of his life.
Thirty years later, John Carter Cashson of Johnny AND June Carter Cash, they rediscovered the songs and reduced them to just Johnny’s powerful, crystalline voice and acoustic guitar. The mission: give new life to tracksbringing the sound back to the roots and heart of those songs.

After reducing the original recordings to just Johnny’s voice and guitar, he searched Fergiean old friend and engineer of Johnny’s for nearly thirty years, and the two set out to create an album that would honor and amplify Johnny’s timeless songwriting and voice while staying true to the spirit of the recordings.
With John CarterFergie is undoubtedly one of the people who knew the most about what Johnny liked when it came to recording, as they worked together in the early 80s when he was the recording engineer at Johnny’s studios. Cowboy Jack Clement, where Johnny always enjoyed recording. She would continue to work with Johnny on many records, including most of his albums Mercury and the acclaimed series American recordings with Rick Rubin. She recorded with Johnny until the singer’s final days in 2003.

With launch scheduled for June 28 for the Universal musicthrough Mercury Nashville AND Universal music businesses (UMe), the aptly titled album Songwriter contains songs written exclusively by Johnny Cashone of the greatest composers and storytellers of WE.
Turning attention to Johnny’s compositions, the collection of 11 tracks shows the breadth of a writing that has always reached the great extension of the human condition. There are songs of love, family, sadness, beauty, spiritual salvation, survival, redemption and, of course, some of the lighthearted humor that Johnny was known for. And everyone sang with his unmistakable voice, his trademark.
Songwriter will be available for streaming and download, and also on CD and in the a variety of vinyl optionsincluding standard black and different color variations in limited edition.
