LL Cool J Addresses Alleged Rap Battle With Jay-Z

During an interview with Charlemagne, GodLL Cool J was asked about his alleged battles with Jay Z.

A rumor that has been circulating for years is that they met in a random parking lot in Manhattan and got into an argument. Allegedly, LL was ridiculed for using a line from his song Funkadelic relicfrom 1993, from his album 14 Shots to the Dome.

“Okay, let’s talk about what this is actually about. First of all, I didn’t rap a line from ‘Funkadelic Relic.’ That’s the first thing. That’s bullshit. That’s not true. What happened though, is I saw the guy, he’s in the club trying to make money to get my attention and I’m like, okay. And then your man, Sauce. [Money]he came up to me and he was rapping. So I got some rhymes…”he stated when asked about this rumor.

You know, these are guys that didn’t make this deal. So when I didn’t make a deal, I had a bag of rhymes. Now they’re on the album. Salsa said some rhymes. I said some rhymes. So I talked a little bit about a song, “Ain’t No Stopping This.” Then Jay came out rapping. I was out of rhymes, b. In no scenario was I fully loaded and ready to rhyme. If I was, I wouldn’t exactly be the first rapper you want to get in this shit with.”, He said.

“So yeah, I’m done rhyming? I’m done rapping? Totally. Was that their peanut gallery? Totally. But do you really want to get into this shit with LL? Do you really want this? Do you want all this trouble or is it just a nice story to have?” finished.

It’s worth noting that the two legends were sometimes cordial in public, but also insulted each other on several albums over the years.

On the other hand, Jay cited the rap legend during his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech, saying that LL helped rappers like him feel more comfortable being vulnerable and “gave us emotional intelligence“.

It’s worth noting that LL is promoting his fourteenth solo album, titled The forcewhich is confirmed for release on September 6. It will be her first album in 11 years.

“I felt like the songs this producer was giving me were better than the ones I was writing.“, he said.
