For the first time in the history of the music reality show America’s Got Talent, Metallica allowed one of the contestants to use one of the songs from their iconic discography. The song in question was “Master of Puppets,” featured on the 1986 studio album of the same name.
The person who introduced the song was Maya Neelakantanan 11-year-old child who played the song in the quarterfinals of the program produced by NBC. “I’m the first artist who Metallica gave permission to touch the AGT. I really want to make Metallica proud,” he said in a vignette.
When he presented the cover of “Master of Puppets,” Neelakantan attributed influences from Indian classical music, with an electric guitar tuned to sound like a sitar. In fact, the judge Simon Cowell He was full of praise. “You’re just one of those people who has a God-given talent,” he said. “This is something you need to do for the rest of your life because you’re great at it.”
