The Cure plan new album with ‘the saddest song’ in their repertoire, says Robert Smith

Vocalist also revealed that the band is preparing a new tour for 2025

Robert Smithvocalist of The Cureshared news about the band’s next album, which could be released in 2025. In an interview with the program X-Posurefrom John Kennedyon Radio X, the singer detailed the process of finalizing the project and revealed that it will include “the saddest song” ever recorded by the band in recent times.

The album will be a continuation of the album Songs Of A Lost Worldreleased in 2024, which marked the band’s first work in 15 years. According to Smith, the tracks were selected from an extensive collection recorded in 2019, which was initially thought of as a double album.

We recorded 24 songs in 2019. Of these, eight made it onto the last album, but there are two other collections of eight tracks each that could be released, as well as other unreleased songs.

Smith highlighted that the final decision on the repertoire is still in progress. “I’m finishing the next album. I can’t decide the order of the songs, but I believe it will have 10 tracks. Some songs were played live, but were not released.Songs Of A Lost Worldand others are completely new”he said. He also mentioned that the album will have a more varied approach compared to the previous one.

In addition to the upcoming release, Smith confirmed that there is material ready for two more albums. “There is another album practically ready, which is a kind of complementary piece to the last one. The third is completely different, with experimental material recorded randomly in the studio. It’s something very different from what we’ve done before.”the singer revealed in another interview with Danielle Perry, from Absolute Radio.
