Gilberto Gil spent New Year’s Eve with his daughter Preta Gil and his wife Flora Gil at Sírio-Libanês hospital, in São Paulo. Preta is hospitalized following surgery on December 19, as part of treatment for bowel cancer.
This Wednesday (1/1), Gilberto Gil’s team published a photo on Instagram showing the family gathering during New Year’s Eve. “Happy New Year to everyone. In particular to our dear Preta Gil, who spent the night accompanied by Gil and Flora Gil, surrounded by love and affection”, we read in the message that accompanies the album.
Recovery and support for the family
Preta Gil announced that she has been discharged from the intensive care unit and is recovering. On December 31, the singer shared images on social media with her family, who were in the hospital to celebrate the arrival of 2025. Everyone wore personalized t-shirts with photos of Preta, in a gesture of support and affection.
The singer was diagnosed with bowel cancer in early 2023. In addition to the new complex surgery, which lasted more than 20 hours, Preta underwent radiotherapy sessions and a total abdominal hysterectomy, a procedure that removes the uterus. The fight against the disease was characterized by close monitoring by families.
