CM Punk and Bryan Danielson talk about the kind of public reaction John Cena would get if he joined AEW

AEW has come a long way since its inception and has seen a lot of changes since guys like Triple H didn’t see it as a a significant threat to shows like NXT . Years later, Triple H is now WWE Creative Team Leader and AEW is a much larger team capable of attract WWE’s best talent under its umbrella . However, one wonders if a wrestler could be “too WWE” and how a guy like John Cena could be welcomed if he decides to join Tony Khan and perform in AEW in his current state. Gossipify asked CM Punk and Bryan Danielson what they thought and their thoughts may be surprising.

Gossipify got a chance to speak with AEW Superstars at San Diego Comic-Con and we had to find out how someone like CM Punk thought John Cena would do at AEW. Punk had a memorable feud with Cena in WWE, and although they had their differences in the ring, Punk truly believed he would be suitable:

I think being like that in WWE would make it perfect for AEW. You can believe? They would probably kick him out of the building, but John is great. I think people would ultimately support it.

CM Punk is probably right in his assessment that John Cena was booed outside the building. AEW is a show that, by design, doesn’t try to be WWE like. A guy like John Cena, who has been the face of WWE for decades, would be a very polarizing addition. At the same time, it would be like when Hulk Hogan joined WCW, except that Cena would probably never be rude.

Bryan Danielson has worked with John Cena in WWE for years and probably knows the champion a little better than other wrestlers. Danielson has spent time out of WWE over the years with Cena, as they were both in a serious relationship with the Bella twins (Danielson married Brie Bella in 2014, Cena dated Nikki Bella until 2018 ). Danielson didn’t have much to add to what his colleague CM Punk said, but he ensured it would be something people could appreciate:

Yes, I think it would be fine. In the sense that it would be a really fun experience for everyone.

I disagree with Bryan Danielson, although I think most of the fun of this experience comes from the fact that Cena’s appearance in AEW seems so unlikely. On the other hand, it seems that the wrestling world has seen so many amazing things happen in recent years that even something as unlikely as possible is possible. For now, though, it might be best to wait for Cena to show up next wwe event especially after he didn’t come back for SummerSlam.

AEW superstars pounce on it dynamite in the TBS every Wednesday starting at 8pm ET e Carnage Friday on TNT at 10pm ET. To watch a John Cena game soon, you may need a Pavone Premium subscription unless he’s interested in making another visit to WWE in the coming months.
