Information was revealed by Abe Cunningham amid the chat that promoted the group’s next album, ‘Private Music’, which comes out on the 22nd
Has been a decade since the Defton It came to Brazil for the last time. The American band formed by Chino Moreno (voice), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Abe Cunningham (drums) and Frank Delgado (keyboards and samples) visited the country in 2001, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2015, at the final occasion performing at Rock in Rio and opening to the System of a Down in Sao Paulo.
In recent years, rumors have emerged that the group would come, especially as part of festivals, but none of this has materialized. According to Cunningham, however, the situation changes in 2026.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil – to be published in full in the coming days – the drummer assured that the group returns to the country next year. The musician did not offer month, cities or other details, but stressed that, yes, we are in the future itinerary.
“[A visita] It will happen very soon. It will be in 2026. ”
Abe also celebrated the strength of the engagement of Brazilian fans on social networks. It is common for him and other musicians to encounter a series of comments asking them to come to the country.
“It’s funny, because you see in all comments on Instagram: ‘Come to Brazil’ (‘Come to Brazil’), what we love. So, it won’t be long. [desde a última visita]. We can barely wait to return. ”
Defton in Rock in Rio 2001
Also during the chat, Abe Cunningham remembered his first trip to Brazil to play in the third edition of Rock in Rio in 2001. At the time, he and his colleagues shared the stage with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Silverchair, among other attractions.
“It was our first time in South America. We played in Buenos Aires, but that particular show… We had always heard of Rock in Rio. This was the original, before he expanded to other cities and getting so big. On the first day, we entered a huge hotel and I was sharing room with Chino at the time, at the top of the hotel, which was over 20 floors. There was a huge basket of fruits. [Risos]”
According to the drummer, the presentation at the Fluminense festival was the greatest career of the group so far. He concluded:
“We absorbed all of those days in Brazil. The show was the biggest we had ever done. There was crazy. Then we were on the bus, Iron Maiden was with us and the image of Britney Spears was on the display. We were like: ‘Where to Britney?’ [Risos] It was an amazing first time. More things happened, but I can’t say. [Risos]”
