The tragic end
The year 1996 marked the beginning of a series of tragic events in the singer’s life. On September 28, Tiny Tim recorded a video interview at the Montague Bookmill and later suffered a heart attack while performing at a ukulele music festival at the Montague Grange Hall in Montague, Massachusetts. Hospitalized for about three weeks at Franklin County Medical Center, he was released but was strongly warned not to perform again due to his heart condition, diabetes and weight. Despite medical recommendations, Tiny Tim decided to continue performing, driven by the love of music and connection with his fans.
Two months later, on November 30, 1996, he performed at a charity gala hosted by the Women’s Club of Minneapolis. Despite telling his third wife, Miss Sue, that he was not feeling well, Tiny Tim I wanted to continue with the show. During their last number of the night, a version of their hit “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”, he suffered another heart attack on stage.
Assisted by his wife and the emergency team, he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, but unfortunately he did not survive, being pronounced dead almost an hour later. His body was buried in a mausoleum at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
The song that stood out
The song was written by Al Dubin (letter) and Joe Burke (music) and became famous first for the guitarist Nick Lucas. On February 5, 1968, the singer Tiny Tim made the song a hit by singing it on the popular American television program Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.
The version of Tim was released in April 1968 on his album God Bless Tiny Tim and reached number seventeen on the US charts that year
