The incident occurred at the Inwood - 207th Street station on June 29, but law enforcement officers have not yet been able to track down the suspect, according to a report by the New York Post.

Investigators said the unidentified woman was wearing a bucket hat and dark sunglasses when she walked up behind the mother and daughter while they were waiting on the station platform.

As a subway train pulled into the station, the woman grabbed the child and tried to run into one of the train cars with her. The girl's mother reacted quickly and managed to save her daughter from the kidnapper. The suspect then boarded the train and fled the station, and authorities have been unable to find her since.

Investigation at Inwood Station

Because the suspect remains at large, the police department decided to release information about the attempted abduction to the news media and ask members of the public for assistance in identifying the woman.

Inwood is a residential neighborhood located at the northernmost tip of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The Inwood - 207th Street station serves as the northern terminal for the IND Eighth Avenue Line on the New York City Subway, a rapid transit system operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The station provides essential transit connections for thousands of commuters traveling between Upper Manhattan and Downtown daily.

The New York City Police Department is the largest municipal police force in the United States, charged with maintaining public safety across the city's five boroughs. Within the department, the NYPD Transit Bureau is dedicated specifically to patrolling the subway network, protecting millions of daily riders across more than 470 stations. Law enforcement officers frequently rely on surveillance cameras and public tips to track individuals who commit crimes inside transit facilities.

Wider Context and Appeal for Help

The Russian news outlet also highlighted a separate case previously reported in Great Britain, where a schoolgirl successfully escaped from attempted kidnappers. In that incident, the girl managed to jump out of a moving vehicle after being targeted by suspects dressed in tracksuits.

New York police continue to seek information regarding the attempted kidnapping at the Manhattan subway station. Authorities have urged anyone who recognizes the description of the suspect in the bucket hat and dark glasses to contact law enforcement immediately to aid the ongoing investigation.
