Sandra Bullock has not ruled out a third "Practical Magic" film if the upcoming sequel proves to be a box office hit. The Oscar-winning actress made the comments in an interview with Vanity Fair ahead of the sequel's release on September 10.
Bullock said they would make a third film if the sequel does well, and that they would then pass the torch to the girls, referring to her on-screen daughters played by Joey King and Maisy Williams.
What 'Practical Magic 2' is about
"Practical Magic 2" is a follow-up to the original 1998 film and brings back Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, who possess magical powers. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest return as the witch aunts who raised them.
The characters played by King and Williams have inherited the family's magic without knowing it. They are also unaware of the family's supposed curse, which makes love especially difficult for the women of the Owens family.
Who is behind the sequel
The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier. The screenplay was written by Akiva Goldsman, who also wrote the original film, together with Georgia Pritchett of "Succession." Bullock and Kidman are also producers on the film.
Bullock said the new film includes several references to the original. She told Vanity Fair that it does not matter if viewers have not seen the first film, but added that those who have will find nostalgic touches showing that the story is still set in the same place, with the same people, while also introducing two more young witches into the story.
Maisy Williams steps into the role
Maisy Williams, 29, already appears ready to take over from the previous generation of witches in the Owens family. The "Game of Thrones" actress recreated some of Bullock's signature red carpet looks from the 1990s and early 2000s, with the Oscar-winning actress giving her on-screen daughter her approval.
