Peruvian influencer Sheyla Rojas was caught off guard live on television after host Magaly Medina revealed that Rojas's on-again partner, former congressman Joaquin Ramirez, is listed as married on his national identity document.
The moment came during an interview in which Rojas confirmed she had been seeing Ramirez, a former secretary of the Fuerza Popular party led by Keiko Fujimori. Medina pulled up his record from Peru's National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) and read out his marital status on air.
Rojas initially seemed curious and jokingly asked Medina to tell her what the document said. Her expression changed completely once she heard that Ramirez was listed as married.
Rojas tried to play down the revelation, saying she knew her partner was separated. She said he had been married but that she believed he had been separated for many years, adding that she knew he was separated and single.
Separated Is Not Divorced, Medina Says
Medina pushed back, telling Rojas that being separated is not the same as being divorced and stressing that the distinction matters. She noted he was separated, not divorced, implying Ramirez could still be legally married.
Faced with that clarification, Rojas admitted she had never directly discussed the matter with the former congressman. She said she had not actually asked him about it.
Medina also suggested the listing could simply be an administrative oversight, meaning Ramirez may not have updated his marital status on the document, as is common for many people. Rojas closed the topic by repeating that she had not asked him about it, telling Medina to imagine that.
