Spider-Man: Brand New Day Debuts in Russian Cinemas Today

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring British actor Tom Holland, premiered in Russian cinemas on August 20, 2026. The fourth entry in the solo superhero franchise follows Peter Parker as he navigates a life where no one remembers his identity.

The blockbuster arrived in Russian theatres after making its global theatrical debut on July 31, 2026. It has already collected over $2 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Spider-Man film in history and the top-earning movie of 2026.

Plot and New Hero Abilities

The storyline picks up four years after the dramatic events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following the memory wipe that ended the previous film, the entire world has forgotten Peter Parker. Neither his former high school friends nor his girlfriend Michelle Jones-Watson, known as MJ, retain any memory of him.

Stripped of his personal relationships, Parker now devotes his entire existence to fighting urban crime. The relentless physical strain eventually triggers a biological mutation within his body, granting him the natural ability to secrete organic web fluid.

While this organic webbing enhances his powers, it also draws the attention of dangerous figures who previously avoided Spider-Man. At the same time, while investigating a mysterious series of crimes across the city, Parker discovers an important secret and comes face to face with echoes of his past.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Crossovers and Cast

Producer Kevin Feige stated that following the conclusion of the previous film, audiences will see Holland portray a real Spider-Man for the first time. Feige explained that Parker must now battle street-level crime on the sidewalks of New York rather than saving the entire universe.

The project brings several established Marvel Cinematic Universe characters into Parker's journey. Fans will see appearances by Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, Black Widow, Mac Gargan, also known as the Scorpion, and Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone.

The release marks Holland's fourth solo film as the web-slinger, surpassing previous live-action iterations of the character. Tobey Maguire starred in a trilogy of films released between 2002 and 2007, while Andrew Garfield played the superhero in two films before his series concluded.

Holland initially expressed hesitation about continuing in the role, stating early on that he felt it was wrong to play Peter Parker into his 30s. He originally advocated for Marvel to pass the mantle to Miles Morales, though the actor later reconsidered his view and agreed to return.

The cast features Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, Zendaya as Michelle Jones-Watson (MJ), and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Jon Bernthal appears as Frank Castle (the Punisher), Mark Ruffalo plays Bruce Banner (the Hulk), Michael Mando portrays Mac Gargan (Scorpion), and Marvin Jones III plays Lonnie Lincoln (Tombstone).

Production Timeline and Filming Locations

Development on Spider-Man: Brand New Day originally began in August 2019. Announcement of filming in London came in February 2025, with principal photography scheduled to begin in mid-2025. Holland stated at the time that the film would open a brand new chapter in the Spider-Man franchise.

Production officially commenced on August 3, 2025, in Glasgow, Scotland. Filming crews worked on location across Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate. Holland noted that he was happy to return to location shooting, as COVID-19 pandemic restrictions had forced the previous film to shoot primarily on studio soundstages.

Filming also took place on location at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, England. In September 2025, production shifted to indoor soundstages at Pinewood Studios, followed by additional filming in London and at the former site of Dorchester Prison in Dorset.

Destin Daniel Cretton directed the feature film, leading a creative team that includes producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the script, Brett Pawlak managed cinematography, Michael Giacchino composed the score, and Charles Wood designed the production sets.
